About How Many Cameras

How Many Cameras started from a question people ask in forums every day: how many cameras do I need, where do they go, and do I have to pay every month? The honest answer depends on the house, so we built a planner that works it out for yours.

We are an independent site. We don't sell cameras, and no brand pays for placement.

What we do

• Keep a database of 84 cameras, doorbells, locks and accessories, with specs and prices checked against brand pages (latest check 2026-09-15).
• Run every recommendation through the same math, published on How we calculate.
• Say when a brand needs a subscription to record, when a spec isn't published, and when a setup is likely to disappoint.

What we don't do

• We don't claim to have tested devices in a lab. Specs are the manufacturers' own.
• We don't collect your home layout. The planner runs in your browser, and a shared plan lives only in its link.

How the site is paid for
